Street art in East Harlem became popular in midd 1900’s when the community became majority hispanic. The street art culture came from the home towns in Puerto Rico which was covered with arts. The community of East Harlem became custom to the culture of the island. The arts to the community was a way to deal with the struggle they were living everyday.
The art and the music was seen by them as an outlet of the struggled living conditions and the popularity of drugs at the time. The arts in East Harlem started as a way to escape from reality and promote a happier feeling to the community, However since then the art has been used to portray respect and bring the community together. The arts in the community has continued to motivate and has even brought people in the community together to design the arts.
